Svea Schneider was born and raised in Landau, Germany. She has been dancing and moving all her Life! After attending the Iwanson school for contemporary dance, she moved to New York City in 2003 to study at the renowned Broadway Dance Center to pursue her dancing career. In 2006 she received her Extraordinary Artist Visa for the United States and since then has been working as a professional dancer, choreographer and dance teacher.
Svea has been trained in Jazz and Modern Dance but found her passion in the street dance styles such as House, Hip Hop, Breakdance, Locking, Popping, Waacking, Voguing and Hustle.
Svea Schneider is the artistic director of KINEMATIK Dance Theater , an urban-contemporary dance company that provides visually stimulating and provocative choreography that pushes the boundaries of traditional representations of urban and contemporary dance.
KINEMATIK takes urban dances such as House, Hip Hop & Breakdance out of its traditional cultural context and re-imagines the way urban dance is presented in a concert stage setting. By reconstructing the conventional through movement, Kinematik addresses common social stereotypes in an attempt to vitalize public debate and engage its audience to rethink existing notions about urban and contemporary dance and culture.
KINEMATIK’s choreography “System Malfunction” was selected as a TOP 10 Finalist in the international choreography contest “Global Dance Contest” by the renowned Sadlers Well’s Theater in London.
KINEMATIK has performed at the “New York Jazz Choreography Project" (NYC), Alvin Ailey Citigroup Theatre (NYC), Performance Project @ University Settlement (NYC), Highline Ballroom (NYC), ‘Cut Loose’ at the Merce Cunningham Studio (NYC), Choreographers Canvas (NYC) and Carnival Choreographers Ball (NYC).
Since 2008 Svea has successfully co-created, co-choreographed and co-produced the Off-off Broadway show “Crazy Sexy Disco“ that was performed at the Daryl Roth Theater (NYC), Roy Arias Theater (NYC), Elmo Lounge (NYC), Underwater Lounge (NYC) and the Resorts Casino (AC).
Svea has taught and performed throughout Germany, the UK, the US, Canada, Dubai and India. In the summer of 2010, Svea was invited to Lima, Peru to choreograph for the dance company CIA de Danza , teach at the dance school D-1 Escuala and teach dance to street children at the non-profit organization ‘D-1 Angeles’ under the direction of Vania Masias.
Svea Schneider extensively toured the US and the UK with the all female hip hop company Decadancetheatre, in which she danced and co-choreographed from 2006 until 2008.Svea performed at such renowned stages as the Queen Elizabeth Hall and the South Bank Center in London, Liverpool Playhouse, Macrobert Theatre, B Supreme Festival, Bumbershoot and Jacobs Pillow.
Svea has worked with artists such as Lil John, Nitty and Speedy and has danced for MTV’s TRL, BET 106 & Park, ABC Networks “The View”, Eska Music Video Awards and MTV India. Svea has appeared in music videos such as Timberland’s “Part of me”, Lumidee`s “Sientelo”, Curly's "How it is", Moby’s “Oh yeah” and the national Hasbro "I-dog commercial" and the International UFO Clothing Advertising campaign. She has danced in the Off-Broadway Shows Carnival Girls and Prince Williamsburg; appeared in an independent movie and was subject of a documentary series called 'Grosse Städte, Grosse Träume' (ZDF) released in Germany in 2011.
Svea appeared in the magazines Dance Spirit and Flair and was featured in the Mumbai Times, Sadie Magazine, Maxi, Rheinpfalz and the Gallatin Rag. She has worked with dance companies such as Vissi Dance Theater,Timepeace Entertainment, Hydroflo Movement Company, Sybarite Productions, and Another Smoove Production.
Svea Schneider teaches Hip Hop, Breakdance, House, Street Jazz and Cardio Dance at Peridance and Equinox. Svea is currently studying Choreography,Dance Production and Arts Administration at NYU's Gallatin School of Individualized Studies
